This section focuses on companies involved in the design and construction of new prisons, jails, and detention centers or in the renovation and maintenance of existing ones. Private prison companies CoreCivic and The GEO Group typically design and build their own prisons. Several other companies, mostly privately-owned, comprise this sector and are contracted to build prisons by the federal government and by state Departments of Corrections across the country. This section also includes companies that set up "tent cities" for immigration detention.
