The border and surveillance industries continue to swell. Corporations are building border walls and so-called “smart” borders, hacking our phones, tracking our movements, sharing our personal information across databases, hunting down immigrants, and caging families.
Some call it “security,” but none of it makes any of us safer. It is time to expose these industries of control and make them less profitable.
It is time to DIVEST FOR IMMIGRANT JUSTICE!
Our Investigate Research Project has identified more than 60 companies with significant involvement in the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border and in the surveillance and criminalization of immigrant communities throughout the United States. With the help of researchers from our Economic Activism Summer School and Empower LLC, we offer an in-depth profile of this industry and the main companies involved in it. Of these companies, 25 are shortlisted as the worst of the worst, the first-ever divestment list designed to promote immigrant justice.
Back in June, the American Friends Service Committee announced our new and groundbreaking investment policy, committing to divestment from the border and surveillance industries. Now we call on other investors of conscience to do the same. Use our investment scanner to check what you are invested in, engage with the companies you own, and ask them to divest from these harmful business activities. If that doesn’t work, divest from them yourself.
Please join us in exposing these corporations and curbing their political influence. Let’s call on our colleges, cities, faith organizations, unions, pension funds, and banks to divest for immigrant justice and withdraw from any partnership with the border and surveillance industries.
Contact us if your organization or campaign needs our support in drafting an investment policy, designing a divestment screen, or implementing it. We would love to partner with you in holding these corporations accountable.
The flyer below has the list full of companies as of October 2021. However, this is a live database that responds to new developments. For the most current list, always check our Borders page.
