The Border Construction and Maintenance category includes the main companies involved in the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border through the construction and maintenance of barriers, fences, terminals, checkpoints, and walls. The vast majority of these companies are privately-owned, and just a few are publicly-traded.
This includes but is not limited to the so-called “Trump Wall,” which aimed to expand the physical barriers along the border wall by hundreds of miles. Construction of the U.S.-Mexico border started in 1962 and has continued in phases through various pieces of legislation and executive orders. As of the end of the Trump Administration in 2021, barriers had been constructed along 776 miles of the border.
